Solihull Walk - Tuesday Night Group

In-person · Solihull

Hi, I’m Danny, welcome to Solihull's Men Walking and Talking. I’m 41 years old, a Dad of 1 and have been living in Shirley for the last few years. I wanted to join MWAT as I’ve had my own challenges with mental health over the years which I’m not afraid to talk about. Following a divorce 10 years ago, things hit me hard so I, like many, have had my fair share of ups and downs since. I’ve been a qualified coach for around 20 years, I lead, manage and motivate teams for a living, completed my Mental Health First Aid course and am utterly fascinated with the influencing the mind. I volunteer for the RAF where I support their veterans combat loneliness, so I’m looking forward to meeting you to chat about life and all the curve balls we get thrown our way. I've been running this group since October 2024 and it's been one of the best things I've ever done in my adult life. The rise in popularity has been incredible, the togetherness and bond of our brotherhood has been phenomenal to see form and development of individuals in the group has made it all worthwhile. Our unit has gotten so popular that we not only have broken the national record on several occasions, that we have now expanded to operating on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. To say I'm proud of our squad, is massively undervaluing the movement we are doing for mens health in Solihull! We look forward to seeing you soon. 💪 Together, Stronger 💪 Hi, I'm James! I'm forty-something with a wife, 2 children and a puppy. For work I'm a customer manager, but also a trained Mental Health First Aider, so this is an initiative that's important to me to support. In a previous career, I used to support long-term unemployed deal with their blockers and ultimately find new employment opportunities. Over the years, I had my own personal battles with depression, grief, marital and parenting struggles! I think my life experiences allow me to listen without judgement and share those experiences with others as appropriate. I joined the Solihull MWAT group on their second week, after several heavy nudges from my wonderful wife. I was struggling in the months leading up to it, and felt depression might be setting in again. Joining the group sorted me right out within weeks. I think it proved to me that an hour a week walking and talking to others made a World of difference. I'm now the Solihull walk leader deputy, predominantly on the weekly walk on Thursdays, to ensure others can get the benefit I've received.... So, come along and let's have a chat 😉

I've lived in this area for the last 10 years and now very much call it my home - I love the community and countryside here. I've always been interested in being outdoors, mainly through taking part in sport, which has helped with me mental wellbeing as well as my fitness, which has gone up and down over the years! I started to understand the power in simply walking and talking during COVID and have walked ever since. I have done various bits of self development in men's work over the years, where I have come to realise that connecting with others in nature is something that can really help. I am up for leading this walking group, to continue building connections with others, for me and others in this and the surrounding communities in South Oxfordshire. None of us can know who we'll meet or what could come from it, but I know many men share concerns about getting out, meeting people and just talking!

For more information and book your place, click here What inspired Leanne to start her group? – I created this group to offer a gentle, nurturing space for parents to slow down, tune into their babies, and feel held. We are often told how to parent, but rarely are we given space to be with our little ones. I wanted to create somewhere where you are welcomed exactly as you are, whether you’re thriving, exhausted, emotional, or just curious to connect. What does the building look like? How will I know I am in the right place? – The venue is next to Ulverston Leisure Centre. It has free parking on-site. When you arrive, you walk around the side of the building closest to the road and head through a brown door. There will usually be a PANDAS poster on the door. If in doubt, just pop me a message, I’ll happily guide you in. Is there parking or public transport nearby? – Yes, there is plenty of parking and a bus stop Any doors, buttons, or steps I should know about? – When you arrive, enter through the main entrance. Pram friendly with no steps. Buggies can be left in the hall, but there is plenty of space in the main room too if your little ones are sleeping on arrival.  There are toilets and changing facilities available, and you’re welcome to feed, change or settle your baby however you need to; this is a judgment-free, baby-led space. I feel a bit nervous and am still not sure if this is for me. – Expect a calm, gentle atmosphere, soft lighting, warm smiles, and time to settle in at your own pace. During half-term, older children are welcome, which adds a different vibe to our session. I usually try and have a guest speaker or host a seasonal party to keep everyone happy. When you come in, just find a comfortable spot. There’s no pressure to be on time or to have everything “together.” You’re welcome to sit, feed, cuddle, or just breathe. I will greet you and help you get settled, and there is always space for a chat if you’d like one. Is there anything else I need to know? – This group is not about doing things perfectly; it’s about connection. Connection to your baby, to yourself, and to a community of parents who understand the journey you’re on.
