The CFC Men’s Group was created after we saw male clients struggle alone with depression, anxiety, and many other mental health concerns. The Group is run by Jim, a friendly and open BACP-qualified therapist passionate about helping men to connect and prioritise their mental health. Our weekly support group will allow men to have honest, judgement-free conversations about their mental health in a safe and confidential environment. No obligation to contribute, you can simply show up and listen. Jim understands the unique pressure men face in opening-up about their struggles. That is why he cultivates a space of trust and compassion. Through sharing stories and resources, he hopes to guide men to realise they're not alone and importantly that it’s OK to not be in a good place and that it's OK to ask for help.

Hi, my name is Gareth and I joined the walk initially after seeing the Merthyr walk advertised on a local FB group. I enjoy walking and I go hiking quite often so I thought this would be ideal for me. I've struggled with my mental health in some form all my life leading up to me suffering a nervous breakdown 5 years ago. I have since recovered and I have gone on to help others in my role with a mental health charity. I have found that there's a lot of stigma around men just talking about their mental health especially in old industrial towns such as Merthyr Tydfil and I want to show that it's ok to break down those barriers and talk.
Held Weekly on a Wednesday 10am till 11.30am – term time only Group facilitators: Sally & Jo

Jon and Josh are Co-Leaders for Men Walking And Talking Mirfield. BIO JON: I am 63 years old and have battled with depression for most of my life, and I have tried a few different mental health groups especially over the last 10 to 15 years. I also used to run a small walk and talk group with friends for a few years but closed it down due to family illnesses and eventual deaths. Last summer I noticed a MWAT gazebo in Huddersfield and started talking with Steve, the walk leader for Huddersfield. I attended a few walks with them and recently decided I wanted to restart a men’s walking group in Mirfield as part of MWAT. A lot of men are isolated with the ‘chin up and don’t show your fears’ attitude because that’s the way they were raised, and they need a space to be themselves. MWAT provides an avenue to opening up and sharing with others who are going through or may have had similar problems. So if you want to join in, come on over. It’s free, there’s no judgement, and you might make some good friends. Our walks start from the front of Mirfield library at 10am every Saturday. See you there! BIO JOSH Hi, I'm Josh. I joined Men Walking And Talking because I know exactly how heavy the silence can feel. Having navigated my own ups and downs with mental health and work stress, I've learned that the hardest part isn't the struggle itself—it's feeling like you have to face it alone. As a co-Walk Leader, my goal is to make sure that first conversation is as easy as possible for the next man who walks with us. Personally, I really enjoy meeting new people and having a good chat. When I’m not out on a trail, I’m usually listening to a new book or catching up on my reading list.
